Act-Belong-Commit Monkeyfunk is a workshop series that brings parents and their children together to dance; building confidence and providing ways to be active together in all parts of their lives. The model is flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of each individual community. Facilitated by an experienced dance teacher and live musician, Act-Belong-Commit Monkeyfunk participants will be able to join in a series of FREE creative dance classes full of play, curiosity and fun.
In 2014, Ausdance WA held a pilot workshop series for parents and young children. Four years on and the program has been presented in Hilton, Kwinana, Armadale, Broome, Karratha, Roebourne, Port Hedland, Carnarvon and Kellerberrin, as well as at the Beaufort Street Festival, the Alcoa Children’s Party and at Kwinana Summer Film Nights. In 2018 we will also present two free workshops at the Alcoa Children’s Festival at Calista Oval in Kwinana on Saturday 17th March.
In 2018, Ausdance WA will continue the successful Act-Belong-Commit MONKEYFUNK project in four locations – Broome, Kwinana, Armadale and returning to PortHedland, after a great pilot in 2016. Act-Belong-Commit MONKEYFUNK, has multilayered aims, promoting the creative playful relationship between parent and child as well as being an offering to the cultural fabric of the communities of participants. The project also has capacity to provide regional artists with opportunities for skills and knowledge development and a forum for exchange between community members. Workshop content and delivery is specifically adapted to match the needs of the community in each region.
