SUMMARY:Keep Everything - Chunky Move
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Mobile States and PICA. \nKeep Everything is a genre-defying fusion of dance and performance from one of Australia’s most innovative choreographers\, Antony Hamilton. Combining forces with ARIA award winning musicians\, Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton\, Keep Everything splices choreography\, electronica\, spoken text and improvised movement to trace human evolution from primates to robots and back again. \nAfter watching this performance I think the future of contemporary dance is in safe hands.\nDance Australia \nKeep Everything is a scrapbook for the stage – a collection of things that don’t fit. Via a series of divergent offerings\, it presents a glimpse into the human psyche\, which ultimately offers a broader understanding of the individual. It champions the absurd and sometimes vulgar nature of the spontaneous\, by understanding that sometimes\, it’s important to keep everything. \nCreative Team: \n\nDirector & Choreograper: Antony Hamilton\nLighting Design: Benjamin Cisterne\nSound Design: Julian Hamilton & Kim Moyes\nAV Design: Robin Fox\nSystem Design & Operation: Nick Roux\nCostume Design Consultant: Paula Levis\nPerformers: Benjamin Hancock\, Lauren Langlois\, Alisdair Macindoe\nPhoto Credit: Jeff Busby\n\nButton Text

SUMMARY:Dancescapes: Stories Through Dance
DESCRIPTION:Experience the wonder of language and stories told through the drama of dance. Author and travel writer Stephen Scourfield will read excerpts of his writing\, distilled from his travels in WA and abroad. These readings will then take the physical form through short\, powerful performances created by Ochre Contemporary Dance Company in a fascinating exploration of the creative process as text is interpreted through dance. The readings and performances will be interspersed between courses from a specially designed menu based on Australian bush cuisine. An experience not to be missed\, this will be an evening of singular beauty. \nTickets include performances\, three-course meal and selected wines.\nContact The University of Western Australia for tickets. \nImage: Dreamtide (Ochre\, 2013) by Simon Cowling

SUMMARY:Borderline
DESCRIPTION:Created by choreographer Aimee Smith and sound designer Ben Taaffe comes a new contemporary dance work like no other. \nBased on a true story\, Borderline is an immersive and spectacular performance about a world gone mad. Part protest riot\, religious cult\, rock concert hysteria and animal herd\, dancers blur and cross the lines between resistance and resignation at the edge of insanity. \nEmerging out of darkness\, fists clench\, hands clap\, and bodies rise and fall as dancers struggle to the verge of collapse\, as if driven by some unknown force\, in a space pulsing with light and sound. It is ecstatic and violent\, glorious and discomforting. \nButton Text

SUMMARY:Status Room
DESCRIPTION:Devised by Daisy Sanders & Shuling Wong and presented by The Blue Room Theatre\, Status Room exposes the versions of ourselves we choose to present. \nOne dances and sings at her reflection behind a closed bedroom door. The other rips it up on a nightclub stage. One will tell you everything and anything\, in person and online. The other watches and listens. \nOne posts poetic and ambiguous missives on life and love. The other revels in publicising bright\, mindless banter. \nOne escapes the city and is never bored in silence. The other fills a morning with paralysing mundanity.\nWho do you see in front of your mirror? What will you like or share? \nA new dance theatre work exploring how openness can serve and connect us or hurt and destroy us. \nDevisers: Daisy Sanders & Shuling Wong\nDirector & Dramaturg: Jo Pollitt\nProducer & Publicity: Jenna Mathie\nFeaturing: Daisy Sanders & Shuling Wong\nLighting & Sound Designer: Joe Lui\nStage Manager: Troy Leenards \nButton Text

SUMMARY:Synchronicity
DESCRIPTION:West Australian Academy of Performing Arts\nChoreographed by: Rafael Bonachela\, Aimee Smith\, Natalie Weir and August Bournonville\nPerformed by: 2nd and 3rd Year Dance students \nWAAPA is extremely excited to mount Sydney Dance Company Director\, Rafael Bonachela’s acclaimed The Land of Yes and The Land of No as part of this final dance season for the year. The first conceptual collaboration between Bonachela and composer Ezio Bosso was inspired by road signs such as one way\, speed limit and roundabout. The piece is wrought from the many signs and symbols that rule our everyday lives and spark hidden memories. It is an abstract\, intensely emotive and highly physical work. Classical dance fans will be impressed by the colour and vibrancy of Kim McCarthy’s and Andries Weidemann’s restaging of Bournonville’s much loved Napoli which tells the story of Teresina\, a young Italian girl who falls in love with Gennaro\, a poor fisherman against the wishes of her mother. Aimee Smith\, recent recipient of a British Council Australia’s Realise Your Dream Award\, rounds out the program with a brand new work. Meanwhile Justin Rutzou remounts Natalie Weir’s iconic work Proofsheet. \nButton Text

SUMMARY:BEAST #3 + No one will tell us... DOUBLE BILL
DESCRIPTION:BEAST #3 (world premiere)\nJo Pollitt & Paea Leach (AUS)\n‘They pick up and put down their feet for years and years and years.’\n– Marcella Polain (Quiet Beast 2012). \nBeast #3 is the third rendering of an original score created in 2012 as a ‘side by side song cycle of movement’. It is driven by a particular physicality shared by Pollitt and Leach emboldened by a perpetual duet of long distance correspondence. The original ‘Quiet Beast’ was a duet created and performed in collaboration with writer Marcella Polain and musician Mace Francis\, presented at Venn Gallery in Perth 2012. The 2nd incarnation ‘Amplified Beast’ was performed by 30 WAAPA undergraduates and guests in 2013. \nThis 3rd version Beast #3 both develops and responds to the original score in an intimate continuum offset by the poetic banality of real life\, song cycles\, and the physicality of words rendered by dancers as writers. Deeply informed by the rigorous exchange between the dancers and the dance\, the work is a paradox of simultaneously building and collapsing structures to reveal attention\, mark interruption and amplify potential. \nPerformers:\nJo Pollitt\nPaea Leach\nPatricia Wood\nRachel Arianne Ogle\nTony Currie\nLanie Mason\nLighting: Ellen Knops\nImage Credit: Eva Fernandes \n \nNo-one will tell us… (WA premiere)\nRosalind Crisp (AUS/FRANCE)\n“It’s magical…. No one will tell us (the artists) what to do\, (the audience) what it means\,(anyone) what it is. Well\, it’s dance\, dance theatre even\, like never before.”\nKeith Gallasch\, Real-Time. \nNo-one will tell us… thrusts four performing artists into an immediate encounter.\nThese are long-term collaborators\, fully engaged in their individual artistic practices: dance artist Rosalind Crisp\, rock musician Hansueli Tischhauser\, performance improvisor Andrew Morrish and lighting designer Marco Wehrspann. \nWhat happens when their practices collide? What is ripped apart? \nWhat remains? How do they co-exist? \nPerformers:\nRosalind Crisp (Aust/France)\nAndrew Morrish (Aust/France)\nHansueli Tischhauser (Switzerland)\nLighting: Marco Wehrspann (Germany)\nProduction: Rosalind Crisp/Omeo Dance (Aust/Fr)\nImage Credit: Patrick Berger
