Experience the pure, raw energy of dance and the beauty of human movement. In one of Perth’s favourite summer traditions, enjoy the unique combination of contemporary dance and dining under a canopy of stars, surrounded by the magnificence of the City Beach Quarry Amphitheatre. Part of the Perth International Arts Festival, Milky Way: Ballet at the Quarry is the hottest ticket in town.
A breathtaking feast for the soul. This ground-breaking collaboration between Gary Lang NT Dance Company, WAB and Opera Artist Deborah Cheetham AO, brings together two Indigenous nations, the Larrakia and Yorta-Yorta, ballet and opera as Gary Lang re-tells his mother’s Yolngu Milky Way creation story, featuring dancers from both companies and traditional cultural artists from Yirrkala.
Claude Brumachon presents a ‘dual flight’ full of energy, seeking something to ‘let go of ’ – to find the desire in a body offered, letting the vocalism of movement vibrate. The dancers tear themselves away, run and fly, wild and savage, re-discovering their first animal instincts then repel themselves, finding the ecstasy in the moment.
Following his beautiful work, The Clearest Light, presented at Ballet at the Quarry 2017, WAB’s own Demi-Soloist Christopher Hill will enchant audiences once again, with the premiere of a gorgeous duet for two women which explores the relationship between earth and water… would one survive without the other?
Known for his fluid contemporary choreography, French choreographer, Patrick Delcroix joins WAB for the first time, bringing one of his magnificent works to the people of Perth.
