Ausdance WA Update
Ausdance WA recently received advice from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries that our application for Organisation Investment Program funding was unsuccessful. In an environment of diminishing funds and increasing competition, our role as a service organisation, delivering programs to educators and sectors of the community that are not served by the state’s dance companies, is not a priority for support. What this means for Ausdance WA is that we do not, at this late stage of 2019, have funds to maintain our core operations throughout 2020.
However, the Management Committee is pursuing a number of alternative avenues for support. We have spent the past two years developing, researching and gathering evidence for our Lifelong Dance Program. Importantly, our proposed Lifelong Dance Program 2020-2022, addresses sector needs, fills gaps in delivery, addresses government policy priorities across a number of portfolios, and is supported by research evidencing the deep impact of the physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits of the program for individuals and communities.
We have identified a number of opportunities to support the delivery of the program, and we will continue to pursue those opportunities in the coming months. We are currently awaiting the outcome of funding applications and will be submitting further applications to seek support for specific projects in the Lifelong Dance Program. We will continue to have discussions with state government decision makers to secure support for our program.
For information about the Lifelong Dance Program and Ausdance WA’s role in Western Australia, we urge you to read: What is our why?
In the short term the Ausdance WA office will be operating in a “holding pattern” until such time as the Lifelong Dance Program can be delivered with adequate resources.
