What did you bring to share?
An excursion in which the participants ‘carry food’ with them and share a [meal]. ‘A Picnic’ is an experimental project that outlines the experience of bringing people together.
Janaina Moraes is a young choreographer from Brazil who graduated in the first class of the Federal Institute of Brasilia with a Bachelor of Dance. Investigating what she calls ‘Open Processes in Composition’, she has been developing works that explore the approach to participative and collaborative experiences. In Australia, she met Georgia Page, an emerging artist with a Bachelor of Performance Theory and Practice (Dance Studies) from the University of Western Sydney and Josten Myburgh, a musician and composer. Together, they have been creating and exploring pieces inspired on the universe of the encounters.
The group are captivated by the subtleties of first meetings. The artists will be prepared with everything that a proper picnic must have – basket, blanket, glasses, plates… However, that is all that is given.
BONUS FACT: The idea for this work came out of Janaina and Georgia’s first collaborative work (Encounters), which was recently part of Strut Dance’s SHORT CUTS.
CIA studios present KISS club – Live art practitioners from different forms show 10 minutes of their their newest ideas in development. Audiences have the opportunity to offer feedback directly to the artists in a safe, supportive environment.
Curated and hosted by tactical media arts group pvi collective, KISS club is a fast and furious insight into what’s bubbling in the hearts and minds of Perth’s experimental performance makers.
Performers from dance, theatre, performance art, social experiments and interactive performance explore themes such as reinventing classics, the awkwardness of first greetings, underground hustlers, sharing secrets and urban music adventures.
House Band Blackwall Reach will be providing a musical introduction to each of the performers and doing a set after the show.
