Give Me a Reason to Live

March 2, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

$25 – $36

Embracing difference and defying definitions of dance.

Taking the form of a series of tests, of body and of faith, Give Me a Reason to Live is a stark solo inspired by the work and world of Medieval painter Hieronymus Bosch. A study in the notion of empathy, the work explores issues of religion – in particular Western religious art, the judgement of bodies and quality of life.

Set to a mesmerising sound score crafted by Zoë Irvine, Give Me a Reason to Live is choreographed and performed by Claire Cunningham and features her own haunting version of one of J.S. Bach’s chorale cantatas. The work exists both as a live memorial to the disabled victims of the Nazi euthanasia program and to the current victims of the present UK governments so-called ‘welfare reform’.
