Ausdance WA is funded by the State Government of Western Australia through the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industry.
Sara has left her family, friends and boyfriend behind in Rome, and spent her last cent on a flight to Australia to chase her fortune. Toni’s funding has been cut and she’s been ridiculed by her peers. The unlikely couple come together to provide each other with a saviour, and everything depends on the project SPEECHLESS. Fame, fortune and redemption await them. They don’t speak each other’s language, but who cares – right?
Part theatre, part dance, part misunderstanding, SPEECHLESS is a bi-lingual conversation between two female bodies, whose understanding of the absolute is absolutely undermined by the slipperiness of language. With awkwardness and awkwardness, SPEECHLESS delights in the moments when it’s on the tip of your tongue, when the translation is out of sync, and interpretation is misinterpreted.
SPEECHLESS is the debut performance work by In Helvetica, a company of three female performance makers based in Melbourne: Sara Di Segna (Luogocommune, Rome), Toni Main (Oddbody Performance Collective) and Georgina Capper (MKA: The Unspoken Word is “Joe”).
“Qualcuno ha per caso visto dove ho lasciato il mio panino,” adds Sara
