Panpapanpalya 2018 will be one of the world’s largest gatherings of dancers, dance educators, and artists of all ages, generating new thoughts and ideas for dance learning and teaching in the 21st century.

During a full week of 8 – 13 July 2018 organisers from daCi (dance and the Child international) and WDA (World Dance Alliance) Global Education and Training Network as well as international dance professionals, will present Panpapanpalya 2018 – dance, gathering, generations, learning – in collaboration with host, University of South Australia and venue partner Adelaide College of the Arts. Local organisers successfully bid to host Panpapanpalya 2018 in Australia, the second joint venture of its kind between the two global dance organisations, following on from the success of a previous joint congress in Taiwan in 2012.

The congress will be a creative contribution to international 21st-century knowledge networks generating new thoughts and ideas for dance learning and teaching.

Connecting with UNESCO to advocate for the rights of a child to quality dance teaching, it will bring together international dance students, educators, artists and researchers in a program of intercultural scholarly and performance gatherings. Panpapanpalya 2018 will be centered on four interwoven themes: dance, gathering, generations, learning. These themes, summarised by the Aboriginal Kaurna word Panpapanpalya, honour Australia’s rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance practices, as well as indigenous dance cultures from around the world. They will be explored alongside sub-themes of community, sustainability, diversity and inclusion.

Babies, young children, school and university students, dance artists, community and cultural workers, parents and carers, as well as educators, will be involved as participants and presenters coming from diverse backgrounds and countries all over the world.

The congress will include intercultural dance experiences across generations and new learning through presentations, social interaction and debate.
