Beautiful Witness sees award winning novelist, author and travel writer Stephen Scourfield combine with choreographer Floeur Alder to bring alive the very spirit of journeying … of exploring the world and ourselves … through words and dance. Alder has devised 30 minutes of solo dance in response to Scourfield’s poetic narration.
As he reads, she dances — the two elements combining into the embodiment of the Beautiful Witness. The dance was choreographed part in collaboration with Floeur’s parents, internationally acclaimed dancers Dame Lucette Aldous and Alan Alder, and is encyclopaedic in its dance references.
In Beautiful Witness, Scourfield and Alder dip into countries and cultures from Oman to Lesotho and Kyrgyzstan …
There are inspirational meetings with people … Pramod in India, TJ in the Kimberley, Willis in South Africa.
But this performance is as much about the spirit of the internal journey than the outward experience.
BIRD
The poetic language of Stephen Scourfield’s novel about image making, BIRD, is accompanied by Will Yeoman’s musical meditations, using both voice and guitar.
