Kiss Club: It’s Getting Awkward

November 13, 2015 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm

Trihedral Sector presents ‘It’s Getting Awkward’ as part of KISS CLUB.

Trihedral Sector is Scott Elstermann, Ezgi Gungor and Sarah Chaffey.

Scott Elstermann and Ezgi Gungor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Dance) last year. During this time, Sarah Chaffey completed her post-graduate studies (Honours) as a member of LINK Dance Company.

The three young artists have show passion and interest in both dance performance and creation. All were successful in featuring their third year choreographic works in the Student Work’s Season (2013-2014) hosted at UWA’s Dolphin Theatre annually.

‘It’s Getting Awkward’ is a contemporary dance work exploring the challenges and variables in greeting people for the first time.

Have you ever been faced with that moment of not knowing whether to initiate a hug or handshake when meeting someone for the first time? Perhaps you even struggled to maintain your composure as you fumbled between both gestures. Why are greetings sometimes so much more challenging than they aught to be?

Through contemporary dance, It’s Getting Awkward physically explores the social expectation that we should be able to provide a convincing display of ease when it comes to meeting new people.

BONUS FACT: ‘It’s Getting Awkward’ will be undergoing its second development under the mentorship of Perth dancer and dance maker Rachel Arianne Ogle. This opportunity has been supported and funded by Propel Youth Arts WA through the Drug Aware YCulture Metro Grant.

CIA studios present KISS club – Live art practitioners from different forms show 10 minutes of their their newest ideas in development. Audiences have the opportunity to offer feedback directly to the artists in a safe, supportive environment.
Curated and hosted by tactical media arts group pvi collective, KISS club is a fast and furious insight into what’s bubbling in the hearts and minds of Perth’s experimental performance makers.

Performers from dance, theatre, performance art, social experiments and interactive performance explore themes such as reinventing classics, the awkwardness of first greetings, underground hustlers, sharing secrets and urban music adventures.

House Band Blackwall Reach will be providing a musical introduction to each of the performers and doing a set after the show.
