WAAPA is extremely excited to mount Sydney Dance Company Director, Rafael Bonachela’s acclaimed The Land of Yes and The Land of No as part of this final dance season for the year. The first conceptual collaboration between Bonachela and composer Ezio Bosso was inspired by road signs such as one way, speed limit and roundabout. The piece is wrought from the many signs and symbols that rule our everyday lives and spark hidden memories. It is an abstract, intensely emotive and highly physical work. Classical dance fans will be impressed by the colour and vibrancy of Kim McCarthy’s and Andries Weidemann’s restaging of Bournonville’s much loved Napoli which tells the story of Teresina, a young Italian girl who falls in love with Gennaro, a poor fisherman against the wishes of her mother. Aimee Smith, recent recipient of a British Council Australia’s Realise Your Dream Award, rounds out the program with a brand new work. Meanwhile Justin Rutzou remounts Natalie Weir’s iconic work Proofsheet.
