ONE REMARKABLE FRIENDSHIP THAT BROKE THROUGH CULTURAL BARRIERS.
Through his distinctive choreography, Bangarra Dance Theatre Artistic Director Stephen Page imagines the sensations and emotions of ‘first contact’ when a courageous young Aboriginal woman, Patyegarang, shared her language, her time and her friendship with colonist Lieutenant William Dawes.
In this new narrative dance theatre work, part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Page embraces the spirit of Patyegarang telling the story of an astonishing act of generosity and cultural exchange, while drawing reference from the notes that Dawes, an astronomer, mathematician and linguist, faithfully recorded.
