[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n Garry Stewart’s Be Your Self the Australian Dance Theatre dancers are transformed into erupting, powerful, creative entities projecting a mountain of startling physical images and impressions set to a wildly unpredictable, cartoonish, electronic score. Stewart wields dance, spoken text, video graphics and architectural design to collapse the underpinnings of who we think we are.
Arising from conversations with a Buddhist monk, neurologist, physiologist and literary academic, Be Your Self also sees Australian Dance Theatre collaborating with avant garde architectural firm Diller, Scofidio + Renfro. DS+R have produced an ingenious and surreal set design that forms the cornerstone of Be Your Self.
