Dance from all over the world to join the music at Fairbridge Festival 2018
The Fairbridge Festival is an annual family-friendly celebration of folk, world and roots music in the heritage-listed Fairbridge Village. This year the Festival is on from 20 – 22 April 2018. In an exciting development, joining close to 100 musical acts this year will be a slew of local and international dance ensembles curated by Dance Programmer Annette Carmichael.
Indonesian dance troupe Alang Babega will showcase the traditional dances of the Minangkabau people, indigenous to West Sumatera. Street performances by The Fair Maids of Perth & Sons include the chance for the audience to have a go at traditional Morris dance. Zakoeira combines dance artist Zak Launay’s expertise in Capoeira and parkour.
There are plenty of chances to pull on your dancing shoes, too. Take a class in Contra Dance, or lose your inhibitions at an early morning conscious dance session with Dancing Dhevas. Join in the African Oz Drum ‘n’ Dance workshop led by “Odai” Affotey from Ghana, or try your hand at some simple couples’ dances with Perth International Dance. Annette will be teaming up with The Sneetches to teach a unique dance for the Fairbridge Parade, everyone is welcome to participate.
